Strength in What Remains, by Tracy Kidder With an anthropologist's eye and a novelist's pen, Kidder recounts the story of Deo, the Burundian former medical student turned American emigre. Told in flashbacks from Deo's 2006 return visit to Burundi to mid-1990s New York and the Burundi of childhood memory and young adulthood, as the Rwandan genocide spilled across the border. It then picks up in 2003, when author and subject first meet. Deo's experience is conveyed with a remarkable depth of vision and feeling.
Fully one in ten adults in the United States today is an entrepreneur. Until recently, initiative and risk-taking were the dominant factors that defined the characteristics of those who chose to become entrepreneurs. Now, however, with corporate downsizing being a fact of life, many entrepreneurs find themselves thrust into the role by default. So what does it take to be successful at starting your own business? What skills do you personally need to develop?
This class will help you to start thinking about whether you have the right stuff to make a success of an entrepreneurial venture. Are you curious, innovative, passionate and creative? Are you optimistic, flexible, confident and persistent? Entrepreneurs are not just born that way; the qualities needed to be successful can be cultivated. Assess your strengths and weaknesses in this interactive workshop and find out if you are ready to take the next step towards business ownership.
Scholarships are available to help with the cost of this class.
